If I'm not mistaken, it is now legal to import one of these.

Together we can.

Only the 1989 MY though... but I suppose that's far more than good enough.

Sorry I think you may be jumping the gun a bit. I believe the chassis started coming out around august so the earliest you can pick up them is in around 7 months... I really hate how this country goes about its import laws.

You know what, this should be the number one most anticipated car for 2014.

Wouldn't it be 25 years since the chassis was made?

Don't import laws work on a by month basis? So when they are importable, you will only be able to import cars manufactured in the first month of that year of manufacture.

Still, you can legally import a Skyline, even if it will be restrictive at first.

I hope so because DAT R32.

Yeah I know, think about it this way, you still have time to look for a decent one find a credible importer and study up on the various hoops you need to jump through before you can pull it off the boat or across the border. If anyone is truly serious about this I would jump on the cars NOW while prices have yet to inflate to astronomical levels. The rest of the world is going to hoard them and sell them to the loving enthusiasts in the US of A at an exorbitant premium.

I am just waiting for the R33s.

Stop mocking us! Go back to your maple syrup and less restrictive import laws!

I struggle to decide which one I like the best. My decision changes daily.

If you live in Japan:
1. Buy an R32 NOW
2. Keep it until it's officially legal in the US. (7 more months apparently)
3. Ship it to the US
4. Sell
5. ???
6. Profit!

Yes, as has been stated, the chassis itself must be 25, but id start in two months by going to japan and finding a September built car (good luck with an august built one) then start the whole shipping process which supposedly takes 6 moths anyway, then you can get it registered right when it gets off the boat!

Just to be an ass... R34 in Canada lol

I thought on January 1, all cars from the 25th year are legal, regardless of build month?
EDIT: Nope, I'm wrong. From NHTSA.gov: "You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle's manufacture."

Yeah, I can't stress this point enough. Anyone interested must know about it otherwise they can go by the book in terms of regulations and it still will get crushed. The earliest you can pick up is in august.

Show and display while a good way to bring in the really rare stuff we don't get isn't the way people should bring in the regular GT-R if plan on using it. A show and display severely limits how much you can drive it and there is a bunch of caveats on how it is used and what is accepted. I don't think a regular GT-R will even qualify with only the nismos like in your link really having a chance at receiving the title.
